Emily and Nicholas’s wedding brought together a traditional Catholic ceremony and a relaxed garden reception at Villa Woodbine in Coconut Grove. Soft blues, white flowers and natural greenery connected each part of the celebration, while a vintage white car added a little old-school character to their portraits.
I photographed and filmed the complete day, from the quiet moments before the ceremony to the dancing and lantern send-off later that evening.
Watch Emily and Nicholas’s Wedding Film
heir photographs preserve individual expressions and carefully chosen details, while the film brings back the letters they read, the ceremony, music, speeches and movement on the dance floor.

A Quiet Start at Villa Woodbine
Emily and Nicholas began their wedding day at Villa Woodbine. Before leaving for the church, they stood back-to-back along one of the villa’s covered walkways and read letters from each other.
It gave them a private moment together without seeing one another before the ceremony. I photographed their reactions as they read, along with the smaller details—the handwritten pages in their hands, Emily’s gown trailing across the terracotta floor and Nicholas waiting just behind her.
Emily also shared an emotional first look with a close family member before joining her bridesmaids. The villa’s warm walls, timber ceiling and open arches created a relaxed setting for these early photographs.
Soft Blue Dresses and White Florals
Emily’s wedding party wore a mixture of pale-blue dresses, including one with a blue floral pattern. The different styles suited each person while still giving the group a coordinated appearance.
Their bouquets combined white flowers, touches of blue and greenery. Emily carried a larger cascading arrangement that repeated the same colors while adding more movement and texture.
Her off-the-shoulder wedding gown featured floral lace, a full skirt and a long veil. The soft detailing worked beautifully against both the formal church interior and the tropical surroundings at Villa Woodbine.
Nicholas wore a light neutral suit with blue floral accents, while the groomsmen wore deeper blue suits. The combination connected the entire wedding party without requiring every outfit to match.
Emily traveled to the ceremony in a white vintage car with a bold red interior—one of several details that gave the day its own character.
A Traditional Catholic Wedding Ceremony
Emily and Nicholas exchanged their vows during a traditional Catholic ceremony surrounded by family and friends.
The church’s arched architecture, marble floor and stained-glass windows created a bright, formal setting. White floral arrangements framed the altar and complemented the colors used throughout the wedding.
The ceremony included readings, the exchange of vows and rings, a unity candle and Communion. I documented the wider church setting alongside the smaller interactions between Emily and Nicholas and the reactions of those watching from the pews.
Afterward, their guests gathered outside and created a tunnel of white and gold ribbons. Emily and Nicholas walked through it hand in hand as the ribbons moved around them.
The exit was lively and colorful, giving everyone an opportunity to celebrate with the newlyweds before returning to Villa Woodbine.
Champagne and Vintage-Car Portraits
Before leaving the church, Emily and Nicholas took a few minutes for portraits with their vintage car.
They opened a bottle of champagne beside it and shared a toast in front of the church’s carved stone entrance. The white car, Nicholas’s neutral suit and Emily’s gown kept the scene visually light, while the champagne brought movement and laughter into the photographs.
These images created a natural transition between the formality of the church ceremony and the more relaxed garden celebration waiting for them in Coconut Grove.
Tropical Wedding Portraits at Villa Woodbine
Back at Villa Woodbine, we used the property’s covered walkways, terracotta staircases, arched openings and tropical garden for Emily and Nicholas’s portraits.
The surroundings gave us plenty of variety without requiring the couple to spend a long time away from their guests. We created architectural portraits around the villa before moving into the courtyard, where palms, flowering plants and the fountain surrounded them.
The courtyard became one of the strongest settings in their gallery. Emily’s white-and-blue bouquet stood out against the dense greenery, while the villa’s warm walls added color without competing with the couple.
I mixed gently directed portraits with quieter moments of Emily and Nicholas walking, talking and laughing together. The aim was to create variety while keeping the session comfortable and allowing them to return to their celebration.

A Light, Garden-Inspired Reception
The reception continued the wedding’s white, blue and green palette.
Tables were arranged beneath a clear-roofed structure surrounded by tropical plants. White linens and floral centerpieces kept the space bright, while the greenery above and around the tables connected the dining area to the garden.
The celebration later moved into Villa Woodbine’s open courtyard. Terracotta floors, arched openings and views of the surrounding plants created a warm setting for Emily and Nicholas’s entrance and first dance.
They entered to cheers from their guests before moving onto the dance floor together. The couple kept the moment relaxed, laughing as their family and friends gathered around the courtyard to watch.
The open layout allowed everyone to remain close without making the dance feel overly staged.
Cake, Cigars and a Lively Dance Floor
Emily and Nicholas chose a white tiered cake decorated with piped details. A separate snack display added a playful touch to the reception, while a cigar station gave guests another place to gather away from the dance floor.
Once the formal dances were complete, the evening quickly became more energetic. Guests filled the courtyard and pulled Emily and Nicholas into the center of the celebration.
The contrast between the quiet start of the day and the evening reception gave their story a natural progression. It began with private letters and thoughtful preparations, continued through the traditions of the church ceremony and finished with a busy dance floor.
This part of the evening also shows what video contributes beyond still photographs. Music, voices and movement all become part of the finished story through wedding films created around real moments.
A Lantern Send-Off
Emily and Nicholas ended the celebration with their guests gathered outside the villa.
Friends and family formed two lines, holding white paper lanterns and light wands above the walkway. The couple moved through the middle together as everyone cheered around them.
It was energetic, slightly chaotic in the best possible way and a fitting ending to a day that had moved from private moments to a celebration shared with everyone they loved.
Planning a Villa Woodbine Wedding?
Villa Woodbine is a historic Mediterranean-style estate in Coconut Grove. Its arched architecture, tiled details, tropical greenery, courtyard and covered spaces gave Emily and Nicholas several distinct settings within one property.
Their celebration also shows how the venue can work when the ceremony takes place elsewhere. They began the day at Villa Woodbine, traveled to the church and then returned for their portraits and reception.
