Riverside Hotel, Fort Lauderdale Wedding Photos & Video | Katy & John

Wedding photo gallery is available at the bottom of the article.

Katy and John’s wedding at Riverside Hotel brought together tropical courtyards, waterfront views and a rooftop reception in the heart of Fort Lauderdale.

Their celebration had a relaxed, modern style built around soft neutral colors, white and blush flowers, greenery and warm gold details. It also included several personal moments, from reading letters during their first look to portraits with a bright red classic car and a sparkler exit at the end of the night.

I photographed and filmed the entire celebration for QMWeddings, beginning with preparations at the hotel and continuing through the final part of the reception.

Watch Katy and John’s Wedding Film

Their film follows the complete day: the anticipation of the morning, their private first look, the waterfront ceremony, speeches and the energy of the rooftop dance floor.

Couples who want one consistent story across both formats can explore working with one coordinated photo and film team.

Getting Ready at Riverside Hotel

Katy and John both prepared at Riverside Hotel, allowing their photography and film coverage to move easily between them without adding unnecessary travel to the morning.

Katy’s wedding dress was photographed on one of the hotel’s terracotta-tiled balconies, surrounded by green shutters and tropical plants. The location connected the dress details to the visual character of the hotel before Katy stepped into it.

She wore a fitted lace gown with a low back, delicate straps and a long train. Loose waves and understated jewelry kept the finished look relaxed and suited the outdoor setting.

John wore a classic black tuxedo with a white shirt, black bow tie and white boutonniere. His groomsmen helped with the final adjustments on a balcony overlooking Fort Lauderdale before the group headed downstairs.

The preparation photographs focused on real interactions rather than turning the morning into a long formal session. They captured people helping one another, conversations on the balconies and the growing anticipation as the ceremony approached.

A First Look in the Tropical Courtyard

Katy and John shared their first look in one of the hotel’s tropical courtyards.

John waited along a pathway surrounded by palms, bamboo and dense greenery while Katy approached from behind. After he turned to see her, they took a few minutes to talk and enjoy the moment away from their guests.

They also exchanged and read private letters during the first look. It gave them time to say something meaningful to one another without an audience and created a natural sequence of emotional photographs and film footage.

Completing the first look before the ceremony allowed us to photograph the wedding party and create some of Katy and John’s portraits while everyone was still relaxed. It also left more time for them to enjoy cocktail hour and the reception later.

For couples who want a similar balance, you can see how I document the whole wedding without turning it into an all-day photoshoot.

Wedding-Party Portraits Beside the New River

Katy’s bridesmaids wore floor-length dresses in soft champagne and blush tones. The different styles looked coordinated without requiring everyone to wear exactly the same design.

John’s groomsmen kept things classic in black suits and tuxedos. Together, the neutral wedding-party colors allowed the greenery and waterfront surroundings to provide most of the color in the photographs.

We photographed the full group on the lawn beside the New River, with boats and waterfront homes visible behind them. The open area gave us space for the traditional photographs before the group relaxed into more playful combinations.

Katy and John stayed by the river for several portraits of their own. The water, palms and passing boats established the Fort Lauderdale setting without taking attention away from them.

Because the hotel’s courtyards, balconies, riverfront and event spaces were all close together, we could create plenty of variety without spending a large part of the afternoon traveling between locations.

Portraits With a Red Classic Car

A bright red classic car added a completely different look to Katy and John’s gallery.

We photographed them beside the car on a quiet street near the hotel before John helped Katy into the passenger seat. The bold red finish stood out against their black-and-white clothing and the softer colors used throughout the rest of the wedding.

It was a fun, personal addition to the day and created a natural transition between their waterfront portraits and the ceremony.

An Outdoor Ceremony Beside the Water

The ceremony took place outside on the hotel’s New River Patio.

Rows of white chairs faced a dark geometric ceremony structure decorated with white, blush and peach flowers, loose greenery and soft fabric. The river, palms and Fort Lauderdale skyline remained visible beyond the ceremony space.

Gold lanterns lined the aisle without blocking the view, while small floral arrangements connected the aisle to the larger installation at the front.

Katy and John exchanged vows and rings in front of their family and friends. The outdoor layout allowed us to photograph their expressions closely while also showing the wider waterfront setting.

After their first kiss, they walked back up the aisle together through cheers from their guests. The formal part of the day was complete, and the celebration could move upstairs.

Family Photographs and Cocktail Hour

We completed the larger family groups near the ceremony space while everyone was still together.

These photographs included several generations and plenty of younger family members, including one particularly cheerful little guest who spent part of the afternoon sitting on John’s shoulders.

Meanwhile, guests enjoyed drinks and appetizers before heading to the rooftop. The transition gave Katy and John time to greet people and spend part of cocktail hour with the friends and relatives who had come to celebrate with them.

Riverside Hotel sits on Las Olas Boulevard beside the New River. Its accommodation, courtyards, waterfront patio and Skyline Terrace allow couples to hold the main parts of their celebration in one location.

A Light and Airy Skyline Terrace Reception

The reception was held on the Skyline Terrace beneath a clear-roofed structure.

White draping and string lights softened the space while keeping views of the surrounding skyline visible. Round and rectangular tables were dressed in white with gold chairs, charger plates and flatware.

The flowers continued the ceremony palette with white, cream and pale peach blooms arranged among plenty of greenery. Taller arrangements added height without making every table identical.

A wall of white flowers displayed Katy and John’s names behind their table, giving them a clean focal point without competing with the wider rooftop view.

The neutral styling felt polished during daylight and became warmer once the sun went down and the string lights took over.

First Dances, Dinner and Speeches

Katy and John entered the reception to cheers before sharing their first dance.

Their family dances followed, bringing several emotional moments to the beginning of the evening. Because the reception was filmed as well as photographed, they will be able to hear the music and see the full interactions again rather than remembering them only as isolated frames.

Dinner and speeches continued around the flower-filled tables. We photographed each speaker, but also focused on Katy and John’s reactions and the laughter, hugs and conversations happening around them.

This is where photography and film complement one another particularly well. The photographs hold onto individual expressions, while video preserves the voices and delivery that gave each speech its meaning.

You can explore wedding films that preserve the sound, movement and personality of a celebration.

A Clear-Roofed Dance Floor Under the Lights

Once the formalities were finished, guests filled the dance floor beneath the transparent roof and rows of warm string lights.

The reception quickly shifted from speeches and family dances to a busy party. Katy and John stayed in the center while friends and relatives danced around them, waved napkins overhead and pulled one another onto the floor.

The transparent structure reflected the lights and movement, giving the evening photographs a lively atmosphere while the Fort Lauderdale skyline remained visible around the terrace.

Katy and John’s tiered semi-naked cake was decorated with white and pale peach flowers. They cut it together before returning to their guests and continuing the celebration.

A Dress Change and Sparkler Exit

Later in the evening, Katy changed into a short white dress that gave her more freedom to dance and made the final part of the celebration feel even more relaxed.

The couple ended the night with a sparkler exit outside the hotel. Their guests formed two lines, raised the sparklers and cheered as Katy and John walked through together.

It was bright, slightly unpredictable and full of movement—the ideal ending for a gallery that began with quiet preparations and finished surrounded by everyone they love.

Riverside Hotel Wedding Photography and Videography

Katy and John’s wedding shows how Riverside Hotel can support a complete celebration without making the day feel confined to a single setting.

Their story moved from balconies and tropical courtyards to the New River, an outdoor ceremony and a clear-roofed rooftop reception. Each part looked different, but the short distances between them helped the timeline remain comfortable.

It was a pleasure photographing and filming the entire celebration for them.
