Kristie and Michael’s wedding at Bonnet House Museum & Gardens was relaxed, colorful and full of personality. They exchanged vows beneath the tropical tree canopy before celebrating with dinner, speeches and dancing in the courtyard.
The couple kept the style light and natural, choosing neutral attire, earthy colors and simple floral details that worked beautifully with the surroundings. I photographed the full celebration and also created edited video reels capturing some of the movement and energy from the day.
Watch Kristie & Michael’s Wedding Highlights
The short video highlights add another perspective to their photographs, bringing back the walk down the aisle, reactions during the ceremony and the atmosphere once everyone reached the dance floor.
Couples who want their celebration covered in more than one format can explore our photography and video options for South Florida weddings.
A Tropical Garden Ceremony
Kristie and Michael held their ceremony outdoors, surrounded by palms, mature trees and dense tropical greenery. Wooden chairs lined the garden path, allowing guests to sit close to the couple while keeping the ceremony connected to the landscape.
The wedding party entered in a relaxed mix of neutral and earthy colors. The bridesmaids wore different shades of green, gold and warm rust, while the groomsmen coordinated in white shirts and light-colored trousers.
Michael wore a light beige suit with a white shirt and coordinating boutonniere. His look felt elegant without appearing overly formal, making it a natural choice for an outdoor Fort Lauderdale wedding.
Kristie arrived in a fitted lace gown with a deep V neckline and open back. Her hair was styled in a low updo, and she carried a bouquet of white flowers and greenery. The detailed lace stood out beautifully against the palms and shaded garden paths.
She walked down the aisle with a loved one before joining Michael in front of the venue’s decorative stone feature. The ceremony design remained simple, using the historic architecture and surrounding greenery as its main visual elements.
A Personal and Emotional Ceremony
Kristie and Michael stood close together as they exchanged vows and rings. Their wedding party gathered on either side, with family and friends watching from beneath the trees.
The ceremony included plenty of smiles, a few emotional reactions and the kind of small glances that are easy to miss when everything is happening. These are the moments I look for throughout a wedding—genuine expressions that help the photographs tell more than the basic order of events.
After their first kiss, Kristie and Michael walked back through the garden together while their guests cheered. Their expressions immediately changed from ceremony nerves to pure excitement.

Wedding-Party and Family Photographs
After the ceremony, we used the stone courtyard and surrounding gardens for group photographs. The pale walls and carved architectural details gave us a clean background while still showing the character of Bonnet House.
We photographed Kristie and Michael with their full wedding party, their families and the individual groups closest to them. The coordinating shades worn by the wedding party looked especially good against the white stone and deep green foliage.
Formal family photographs are an important part of a wedding gallery, but they do not need to take over the afternoon. Keeping the groups organized allowed everyone to return to the celebration while leaving enough time for Kristie and Michael to enjoy their portraits together.
Exploring the Bonnet House Gardens
The grounds gave us a wide range of settings without having to leave the venue. We walked through shaded paths, open lawns and areas surrounded by palms, water and tropical plants.
Kristie and Michael were naturally affectionate and playful together. Rather than holding them in one pose for too long, I encouraged them to walk, talk and enjoy a few quieter minutes away from their guests. This created a varied collection of portraits without making the photography feel like a separate production.
The softer light beneath the trees worked beautifully with Kristie’s lace gown and Michael’s neutral suit. We also used the warmer evening light as it came through the palms, giving the later portraits a different feel from those taken immediately after the ceremony.
These surroundings are one of the reasons Bonnet House works so well for wedding photography in the Fort Lauderdale area.
An Open-Air Courtyard Reception
The celebration continued in the Bonnet House courtyard. Guest tables were arranged beneath the open sky, surrounded by the venue’s colorful doors, historic walls and tropical plants.
White linens kept the tables bright, while greenery, candles and understated decorations complemented the garden setting. The overall design felt welcoming and comfortable rather than overly formal.
Kristie and Michael made their entrance before moving into their first dance. Guests gathered around the courtyard, giving these moments a close and intimate atmosphere.
Speeches followed, bringing a combination of laughter and emotional reactions from the couple and their families. Photographing the people listening is just as important as covering the person holding the microphone, and the gallery includes plenty of those genuine responses.

Cake, Dancing and a Packed Courtyard
Kristie and Michael chose a white wedding cake decorated with green and blue floral details. They cut it together before sharing a bite and joining their guests for the rest of the party.
Once dancing began, the courtyard filled quickly. The relaxed energy from the ceremony carried straight into the reception, with friends and family dancing around the couple beneath the lights.
The edited reels from the wedding were especially useful for preserving this part of the evening. Photographs freeze individual expressions, while short video sequences capture how the celebration moved and sounded in real time. Planning a Bonnet House Wedding?
Kristie and Michael’s celebration showed how naturally a wedding can move through the different areas of Bonnet House Museum & Gardens. They held their ceremony among the tropical greenery, explored the grounds for portraits and finished the evening with an open-air courtyard reception.
If you are planning your own wedding here, allowing enough time for photographs around the gardens is worthwhile. The venue offers very different backgrounds within a relatively compact area, so portraits can feel varied without keeping you away from your guests for too long.
