Mikaela and Sagar’s Secret Gardens Miami wedding moved from a rainy afternoon among the palms to an outdoor ceremony beside the water and a lively reception inside the venue’s glass-walled ballroom.

Their design brought together white and lilac flowers, soft purple bridesmaid dresses and elegant black-tie details. The tropical setting gave every part of the day a sense of privacy, while the ballroom kept dinner and dancing comfortable once evening arrived.

I photographed and filmed the full celebration for Mikaela and Sagar, from the personal details and family portraits to the vows, speeches, low-fog first dance and sparkler exit.

The photographs preserve the colors, expressions and garden setting. Their film brings back the parts that moved and made sound: the violinist, vows, speeches, music and the energy of a dance floor that became considerably less formal as the night went on.

A Little Rain and a Calm Start

South Florida weather decided to join the photographs early, so umbrellas came out while Mikaela, her family and bridesmaids moved through the grounds. It did not stop the portraits or turn the schedule into a crisis. We kept everyone close to shelter, worked in short windows and used the softer overcast light when it was available.

Mikaela wore a full white gown with a long, lace-edged veil and carried a cascading bouquet of white orchids, greenery and lilac flowers. Her bridesmaids wore different styles of soft purple dresses, tying naturally into the florals and the colorful traditional clothing worn by many family members and guests.

Sagar chose a black tuxedo and bow tie, while his groomsmen wore gray suits with lilac bow ties and boutonnieres. We used the bright, covered ballroom for wedding-party and family photographs, giving everyone a dry, comfortable space without losing the greenery visible through the glass walls.

The mix of formal portraits and more playful group photographs kept this part of the day organized without making it feel stiff. With a large family group, that is quite an achievement—and usually involves at least one person being located at the last possible second.

Portraits Among the Palms

Once Mikaela and Sagar had time together, we walked through the tropical paths for their couple portraits. The palms, stone walls and layers of greenery gave the photographs depth without needing additional décor or a trip away from the venue.

Mikaela’s long veil became a big part of this sequence. We used its movement for wide portraits, then switched to closer photographs as the two of them walked, talked and relaxed together. The combination of Sagar’s black tuxedo, Mikaela’s clean white gown and the deep green surroundings kept the portraits elegant while still connected to the venue.

We also photographed them beside the illuminated LOVE letters and around the stone ceremony arch. Using several nearby locations gave their gallery variety without asking them to disappear from their guests for a long portrait session.

A Ceremony Beside the Water

By ceremony time, everyone could gather outdoors. A violinist played on the wooden platform while guests took their seats among the palms. Low floral arrangements in white, lavender and blue lined the aisle, and two tall flower-covered columns framed the natural coral-stone arch beside the water.

Mikaela was escorted down the aisle by two loved ones, with her bridesmaids waiting in lilac on one side and Sagar’s groomsmen in gray on the other. The dark stone, tropical foliage and waterfall created a dramatic setting, but the ceremony itself stayed focused on the two of them and the people gathered close around them.

Mikaela and Sagar exchanged vows and rings beneath the arch before walking back through the garden as a married couple. Once guests moved toward the reception, we returned briefly for portraits while the floral installation was still in place.

A Purple-and-Gold Ballroom Reception

The reception took place in Secret Gardens Miami’s glass-walled ballroom. White draping, chandeliers and rows of warm string lights softened the space, while the windows kept the gardens visible around the celebration.

Round tables were dressed in white with gold chairs and chargers, deep purple napkins and low white-and-lilac floral arrangements. A large grazing display added plenty of color of its own, and the three-tier white cake kept the design simple with gold details and delicate flowers.

The layout worked well for a celebration with a large guest list. Everyone could remain close to the sweetheart table, speeches and dance floor, while the clear walls made the room feel open rather than separated from the tropical property outside.

A Dress Change and a Proper Party

For the evening, Mikaela changed into a short white dress with sheer sleeves and a full skirt. It gave her far more freedom for the first dance—and, judging by what followed, that freedom was used properly.

Mikaela and Sagar began their first dance beneath the chandeliers with low fog across the floor and cold sparks rising behind them. Speeches followed, then the couple cut their cake and shared the first pieces before the dance floor filled.

The party moved through group dancing, colorful lighting and an increasingly competitive limbo round. Guests of several generations joined in, which gave the reception photographs the kind of variety no carefully staged shot list could create.

At the end of the night, everyone formed two lines outside the ballroom for a sparkler exit. Mikaela and Sagar walked through together, pausing for one final dip beneath the lights before heading out—an excellent ending to a day that had started with umbrellas.
